LOOK WHAT HAPPENED
We are very proud to announce that Alchemy of Headwinds, by John Macker, published by Auxarczen, was named a 2026 New Mexico Book Awards finalist in Poetry.
That means a little bit more when you know the history. The New Mexico Book Awards has been around for nearly two decades. Founded in 2007 by Paul Rhetts, the awards were created to "uncover and honor the best in New Mexico books." In 2025, the program moved under the management of New Mexico Writers, a nonprofit founded in 2016 to support and connect New Mexico's literary community.
We didn't bring home the award but we did bring home something pretty dang wonderful, the knowledge that this book that we believed in found its way into a room with some remarkable company. Huge congratulations to the winners. One of them is a neighbor here in Taos, publishing with another small press, and we couldn't be happier to see good books being made right here in Taos, New Mexico.
We are proud of John. We are proud of this book. We are especially proud that Auxarczen brought it into the world.
